Pontus Servo made his way for the Imperial Palace with all the eagerness of a
man about to be executed. It was late at night, and the Emperor had summoned him
just moments earlier.
Upon entering into the huge offices of the Emperor, Pontus noticed a full room
of scribes and servants as Antoninus himself sat at a desk with a seemingly
endless basket of scrolls at his feet and countless others strewn about his
desk.
The two praetorians who had escorted Pontus called out his introduction.
"Pertinax Decius Pontus Servo, Senator of Rome, is ready to be received".
Antoninus looked up and motioned. Pontus drew into the room and saluted the
Emperor. Antoninus sat back and studied Pontus. "You are not happy Verius Pollio
has been replaced as my immediate heir."
Pontus smiled "Well I approve of the choice."
Antoninus was witty "Yes a fellow believer of the republic eh?"
Pontus frowned "Well...the Imperial republic seems to be working out...lets
leave our differences where they may be. You know I am a loyal Senator. You
never did like me did you?"
Antoninus sipped some fresh juice "Good for the body. Keeps the mind flowing.
You're not a Senator anymore Pontus.". Pontus face twisted. Pontus saluted and
turned to leave when Antoninus began laughing heartily. "Noo Postumus. Ha. You
have it all wrong. You work in Hispania, though fruitless, was brave. Especially
after what happened to Marcus Dio."
Pontus was puzzled "You are not angry I was unable to secure peace?"
Antoninus shook his head "No. Your loyalty is proven. I knew there was no chance
for peace at all. You are now a Consulus and I expect every ounce what Consulus
should do."
Pontus was bright eyed "Antoninus! You have made no mistake... I
promise...I...I...I will do exactly..."
Antoninus stood and put his head on the old mans shoulder "I understand Pontus."
Pontus saluted with a smiled and left.
Antoninus sat down to his desk. "Ahh...another ally. Another ally."
Claudius Servo came in from the back room. "Yes my Emperor, and you can never
have too many."

Decenaeus Dio's feast and sacrifice at the Temple of Mars where some 200 bulls
where sacrificed in the name of warfare was a grand spectacle. The Emperor
thought very highly of the ceremony. In light of such good work, the Emperor
instructed Decenaeus Dio to join up with Legion XV, under Tacitus Calidus
Disius, now expelled into Narboneses, which sat in fortress waiting to subdue
the rebellion.
"Emperor, leave Rome?" Decenaeus was exasperated.
"It will be good experience, and besides, the men there are not of the quality
Marius Aelius has. With a servant of Mars among them, it will bolster
confidence"
Decenaeus dared not argue. "Very well Emperor, I will go and the troops will
fight and the rebellion will be quelled quickly."

MEANWHILE
----------
Harellos was Marius Aelius' target. Now that the Emperor had given the II legion
to him, seven legions sat poised for invasion into Macedonia. A two pronged
strategy would be used with Legions IX, under Decius Alus, and legion XII, under
Dominus Carus (who would be commander of the entire event) guarding the eastern
flank, and marching south some seventy miles east of the main attack force under
Marius Aelius. Legion IV, would remain in barracks under Nubrius Gallus Flaco in
case of a failed battle.
Dacia and Thrace had become bold with the news of Gallic raids into Aquitania
Gaul, and the word that Tomidius Servo's legions had been painfully slow to
react.
Some 52,000 men under Galantace marched due west to pinch Roman forces between a
massive 70,000 man Macedonian Army and themselves in the hill country of
southern Dalmatia and northern Macedonia.
However, the combined armies, led by Galantace of Thrace, were too quick. They
met up with the Armies of Rome far too quickly. However, they didnt meet up with
the full army. Galantace recon had informed him, just as he was to pull back
with word of the massive Roman numbers, that the Roman army was in two, and only
20,000 men guarded the eastern flank. With that news, the fates of those two
legions was already decided.
------
BATTLE OF CADA
------
Before the men of the IX could be informed by Recon that an attack was nearly
due, they felt the first volley of arrows from the Thracian forces. Decius Alus
was quick to react, but his forces where hopelessly outnumbered. Legion XII
attempted boldly to split the attackers, but failed and took massive casualties.
Dominus Carus ordered a retreat before two hours had even passed.
Thrace/Dacia - 1,000-3,000 killed, 1,000-2,000 wounded.
ROME - 4,900 killed, 1,300 wounded
Notable Killed:
Augustus Maxus, Centurion. XII legion.
Antoninus Gaius Julianus, Centurion, XII legion.
Drusus Flavus, Officer, XII legion.
Legions XII and IX returned to barracks, and when Marius Aelius caught word of
his whole flank in full flight, he ordered the campaign scrapped as they too
made their way back to Dalmatia.
Marius Aelius was a man who did not take well to defeat. This would be a bitter
and shameful pill to swallow.
